Marion Community Schools is pleased to announce that Alicia Morrell will be stepping up into the Principal role at Riverview Elementary for the 2023-24 school year.
Morrell has served as Assistant Principal at Frances Slocum Elementary for the past three school years.
Prior to that she was a teacher at Frances Slocum Elementary since 2018, and also taught at Lincoln Elementary for the 2009-10 school year. In the eight years between, she was an administrator at Indiana Wesleyan University with the Upward Bound program, a federal college preparation program providing educational, social, and cultural experiences to local high school students in order to help them develop in character, scholarship, and leadership. Morrell was assistant director of Upward Bound at IWU for one year, and director for seven.
“I am honored to serve in the capacity of Principal at Riverview Elementary,” Morrell said. “My goal is to provide the type of leadership that continues to promote growth, development, and accountability for students and teachers. I also intend to develop close relationships with parents and community partners. Together, we can continue to make a difference in the lives of our students.”
The Marion native and Marion High School graduate earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and her master’s in organizational leadership at Indiana Wesleyan University, along with her principal licensure.
She is excited about the coming school year and the opportunities ahead.
“I look forward to working with students, teachers, staff, and other stakeholders to provide our students with a positive and high quality school experience,” she said.
