News Blog Category - News Dear Riverview families:

It is my pleasure to be the principal of Riverview Elementary. For those of you who don't know me, this will be my seventh year as an administrator in Marion Community Schools. Before coming to MCS, I taught fourth grade for 10 years. I grew up with parents who were both teachers, and I know that I entered education wanting to teach children because of them. I love working with children and seeing them grow in knowledge every year. As you noticed, I started off this letter addressing you as family. That's right! You are family to us, and we love working with you.

I am extremely excited to start this school year! Last year, we saw a lot of academic growth from our students. We will be laser focused on reading and math, but also not forgetting science and social studies. Our teachers have been working very hard with getting their classrooms and lessons ready for your child. Please work with your teacher and communicate with him or her if you have any questions or concerns. Your child's teacher has his/her best interest in mind.

Our vision:

Riverview Elementary School is a place where all students are encouraged to strive for excellence academically, socially, and emotionally in a safe and supportive atmosphere. Our goal is to work in partnership with our parents and community to create an environment where students are empowered to discover their strengths and achieve their maximum potential. Opportunities are available for enrichment, intervention, and remediateion as necessary. We set high expectations for all students. Our entire school community shares the belief that all children can and will learn.

I am asking that you do what you can this year to get involved with your child/children at Riverview. We have many fun events planned. We also have many ways to get involved: volunteering in a classroom, Parent Advisory Council, Parent Nights, Family Nights, PASS (PTO), chaperoning a field trip, and more! We will communicate those events through our website and Facebook page, newsletters, and email/phone/text messages. You are very important to us! If you ever have any questions or concerns, please email or call me. I want us to work together to bring out the true potential of your child/children. We are a team. We are a family.

If you would like to volunteer at Riverview Elementary, you will need to fill out a volunteer application from the office. This includes volunteering in a classroom, for a field trip, and any time you are with children at Riverview.

Parent Advisory Council

We need parents / guardians for our Parent Advisory Council.

This council will meet two to three times during the year. This Parent Advisory Council will help with our School Improvement Plan, and help make decisions for our students. If interested, contact our office: Call 662-2427 or stop by on a school day.

PASS, which stands for Parents Allies for Student Success, is our parent-teacher organization. We need parents / guardians to help!

PASS meets the second Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. Help make decisions and plan fun events for our students and teachers.

Riverview students and families:

Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful summer and are excited to get the 2018-19 school year started. If you are new to Riverview Elementary, we want to welcome you into our wonderful family. Riverview is a safe place of learning, making friends, making memories, having fun, and a lot more! You are going to love it here!

This year is going to be filled with a lot of exciting things! Are you ready to grow? Our Riverview team has been working hard preparing their classrooms, the school, and lessons so that you will have the best year yet! We make GIANT things happen!

If you haven't registered your child, please click here for information about when you can do so. Please do not wait until the last day to register. We need to know who our awesome GIANTS are and place them in classes!

We will have an OPEN HOUSE on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Come see who your teacher is, and please note: Riverview apparel will be on display to order at the PASS (Parent Allies for Student Success) table.

Students' first day of school is Aug. 9. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast (which is free to all students), and school begins at 7:45 a.m. Dismissal is at 2:15 p.m. (Kindergarten parents: You may walk your child to class the first day, but after that, our awsome kindergarten teachers will help them get to class.)

CAR RIDERS please note: We have updated information for dismissal.

We ask that you do NOT line up before 1:45 p.m. to pick up your student. We would like to provide easy access to our visitors entering, exiting, parking, and visiting our building. We also need easy access for emergency vehicles in case they are ever needed. Please see the photo below for the designated spot to begin lining up no earlier than 1:45 p.m. At 2 p.m., Riverview staff will direct the line forward.

Please also remember: DO NOT block driveways of our neighboring houses! Police could ticket you if you are blocking driveways.

We successfully load more than 150 cars in 15 minutes! Please be patient with us. Your cooperation is appreciated.

This is going to be a great year! I am extremely excited to see all of our Riverview Giants back in the building. I have missed everyone! See you soon.
