Help your child excel! Check out these ISTEP+ prep tips:

News Blog Category - News It’s that time of year again! The Indiana Department of Education’s ISTEP+ for third and fourth grade will begin on Monday, Feb. 27, and run through March 10.

These yearly tests for third and fourth grade students are used to monitor how students are progressing academically in English/language arts, math, and (for fourth grade only) science. As you may be aware already, your child’s performance on this test is essential to your student’s education. Here are some important reminders to help your child excel:

BE ON TIME! School starts at 7:45 a.m. Monday through Friday. Being tardy for school during ISTEP+ will result in your student having to take the test at a different time and location than what they are used to. Studies have shown that students perform better when they are in the same setting in which they practiced for testing. Also, if your child is late, they miss out on the opportunity for a healthy breakfast.

EAT BREAKFAST! Starting the day with a healthy breakfast improves concentration, supports emotional health, alleviates aggression, and reduces hyperactivity. A healthy breakfast jump-starts the brain!

GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP! The Mayo Clinic recommends school-aged children should get between 9 and 11 hours of sleep
a night. Like breakfast, getting enough sleep helps children focus but also helps improve memory and response time.

Please contact your child’s teacher or the office for any questions or concerns regarding ISTEP+.

We look forward to another successful year of testing and appreciate your help in achieving academic excellence.
